Obituary For August H. Pieper
Madison- On Thursday morning, April 25, 2024, August H. Pieper left for his ultimate game of golf in the heavenly skies. Gus was born on September 27, 1932, to Christina and John A. Pieper. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1950 and eventually went into the Army where he was able to spend time in Germany. He joined the Madison Police Department in 1956 where he met the love of his life, Beverley. The couple married on May 10, 1958, and welcomed 4 daughters within the next 5 years. Augie was honored to receive the prestigious “Officer of the Year” Award in 1963. Throughout his 32-year career he held numerous positions and had many accomplishments before retiring in 1988.
He was a devoted family man who worked multiple jobs to care for his family. He obtained a degree from UW Madison with the support of his wife, while they had small children, so he could continue his law enforcement career progression. Bev and Augie were actively involved in the Friendship Force exchange and Sister City programs which allowed them to travel to other counties.
Throughout his life Augie helped his children with many projects, taught underprivileged children how to golf and was part of the “gallon club” through the red cross. In addition to this, he found time for bowling leagues, playing poker, and many many rounds of golf. He accomplished his dream of a “hole in one” while playing at Pleasant View Golf Course. He will be remembered for his strong determination, his wonderful sense of humor and his beautiful smile. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his entire family and many friends.
Augie (aka Gus) is survived by his wife Beverley of over 65 years, his daughters Lori (John) Bloom, Kristi (Russ) McShane, and Kathy (Phil) Bellomo and his sister Lea (Tom) Goodney and 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda (Barry) Skaaland and his siblings, Marbeth Wierich, Jack Pieper, Bill Pieper, Ed Piper, Anitra Pieper and numerous friends and golf buddies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue, with Father William Nolan officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church.
