Obituary For Anne Kristine Klawiter

Anne Kristine Klawiter, 79, of Verona and formerly of Platteville, died on October 10, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Allen Newton, brother John Krogstad, and sister Mary Jo Hanson.

Born on December 27, 1944, to John and Jeannette Krogstad, Anne graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1963. Anne earned a degree in radiology technology and married Richard Klawiter on August 20, 1965, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

Anne worked at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire before moving to Missouri so Richard could pursue his graduate degree. They moved to Platteville in 1971. She began working in radiology at Southwest Health Center (then Platteville Municipal Hospital), eventually moving into the vice president role and became President and CEO in 1989, a role she held until her retirement in 2011. She cared deeply about providing exceptional care for the patients of Southwest Health Center and contributing to the vitality of the community. The highlight of her career was overseeing the design and building of the new hospital and medical offices which opened in 2005; other professional accomplishments include receiving the Business Person of the Year in 1995 from the Platteville Chamber of Commerce; serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative from 1997-1999, and testifying in Washington D.C. before the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development in 1999.

Anne especially loved the Christmas season. Having the house decorated, buying gifts and hosting family brought her great joy.

Anne is survived by her husband, Richard, of Verona, children Mark (Karis) Klawiter of Verona, Elizabeth (AJ) Ihm of Buford, GA, and Alison (Jonathan) Klein, of Verona, and grandchildren Sidney, Reagan, Jack, Remy, Bradley, Jackson, Lauren and Parker; cousins Julie (Red) Steffen and Steve (Kristine) Isaacson of Eau Claire, Lee (Kathy) Isaacson of Middleton, and Nancy Kirkvliet of Corvalis, Oregon; sisters-in-law Sylvia (Larry) Kurowski of Platteville and Cindy (Marlin) DeGarmo of La Crosse.

In keeping with Anne’s wishes, no services will be held. Please consider a memorial donation to the American Heart Association, Southwest Health Foundation, the Grant County Humane Society, or Southwest Opportunities Center.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
