Obituary For Andrew "Andy" Clevenger

Madison - Andrew “Andy” Clevenger, 41, died on August 23, 2023, in Madison, WI. Born on March 5th, 1982, Andy is the son of Joe Clevenger of Arlington, WI and Brenda Bland of Westport, WI.

Andy was an avid nature and animal lover; he is fondly remembered for his habit of moving turtles and other small animals off the road to safety. He loved spending time with family; he would walk or bike many miles every week from Madison to his mother’s house in Westport to visit with her and her cats and could always be relied upon to step up and provide cat-sitting duties whenever needed. He was very naturally skilled at fixing things, a talent he inherited from his father. An excellent whittler, his mother still loves and keeps some of his early works. In his final years, he worked extensively in window replacement and other home repair and remodeling, even establishing his own business, “Andy’s Handyworks”.

Andy was preceded in death by his infant twin sisters, Margaret Ann “Maggie” and Chris Clevenger in 1984, and his paternal grandfather Maxwell “Max” Clevenger. Survivors include his mother, Brenda (Dave Sarocka) Bland; his father, Joe (Pauline) Clevenger; his sister, Samantha (Miguel) Benson; his maternal grandparents; his paternal grandmother; his nieces Ezzie and Laura; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be private. Andy will be deeply missed.

Condolences

To Andy's family- We are so sorry for your loss. Andy worked alongside Nathan Beecher and did a lot of renovation work on our house over the past two years. We admired his patient attitude and calm demeanor. We never saw him flustered even when things were unexpected in an old house. He was always friendly and especially sweet with our dog. We remember him with a smile and send you our sincere condolences. - Katie Childs and Josh Kalscheur

I had the great good fortune of Andy growing up on the block. As an adult, he would often come by and we always said 'hello' to each other. As a kid, we would talk about where the cool critters were on the block. I'm not at all surprised to know that he would faithfully move small animals and turtles out of the road. To Andy's family and friends, I'm so very sorry that he has passed. I will miss him. Anne Walker on Merry

I'm so sorry to hear about Andy's passing and offer you my prayers for peace and comfort during what must be such a difficult time for you. You won't know me and Andy knew me only as "Joanne" the Thursday door person at Luke House. Andy was quiet, so I didn't know him well but his presence was something that I looked forward to. The things that I thought I knew about Andy: his eyes were gentle and spoke of compassion, he had an air of wisdom and insight about him, a soft and fleeting smile hinted that he found joy in small things and that he wished it would come more often. He lightly shared what seemed to be a beautiful soul. I'm grateful that his path crossed mine and I will miss him. With prayers for healing, Joanne Grassman

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
