Obituary For Allen Herman Haas

Madsion:

Allen Herman Haas, 90, of Madison, was called to the Lord on September 15, 2016, fulfilling God’s plan. He was born on June 19, 1926, in Roxbury, the youngest son of George and Meta Haas.

Allen joined the U.S. Navy at age 18 and served as a signalman on amphibious boats in the South Pacific during World War II. After graduating from U.W.- Madison, he served for decades as an Association Executive at numerous nonprofits in the Madison area including the American Cancer Society, the Wisconsin State Medical Society, and the Greater Madison Board of Realtors.

He retired in 1986 and devoted nearly three decades to community service. He served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, serving in two national disaster relief efforts and transporting blood to their offices; and with the Ronald McDonald House as Chairman of their Driver Program. Allen also volunteered as the Food Acquisition Chairman with the Southern Wisconsin Food Bank for five years, and was active in the Madison Jaycees.

One of his fondest pastimes, other than playing Bridge and Cribbage and spending time with family, was driving – whether in a car or on his Goldwing motorcycle. He served on committees for Safety and Education for the Goldwing Road Riders for 27 years, and as a boat captain for the Madison Recreation Program for nine years. A devout Catholic, Allen was a Mass Reader at Saint Maria Goretti Parish for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores (Kessenich) Haas; and their six children, Karen Haas (Pam Hammond) in Greenville, NC, Richard (Kathi) in Scottsdale, AZ, Bruce (Gary Sharp) in Knoxville, TN, Cheri Martin (Steve) in Watertown, Randy (Ann) in Seattle, and Brian (Mary) in San Jose CA; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Connie Frosch, Esther Frosch; and brothers Monroe and Lyman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Road, with Msgr. Michael Burke presiding. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 1 pm. until the time of Mass. A private burial will be held on Monday, September 19 at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Allen’s memory be made to the American Red Cross. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
