Obituary For Alice M. Wing Carpenter

Madison – Alice Wing was born September 29, 1922 in the town of Baraboo to Floyd and Gertrude Carpenter. She passed away April 4, 2015. Alice graduated from Lyons State Grade School in West Baraboo in 1936, Baraboo High school in 1940, and Oshkosh State Teachers College with a BS in 1944.

Alice worked at Bayers Bakery and Badger Ordinance in Baraboo while going to college. Alice married Frank Wing in her parents' home in 1943. In 1946 they moved to Madison, their permanent home. The highlight of her marriage was her four children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.

Alice taught elementary grades for 27 years at Washington School, Spring Harbor School, and Falk School in Madison, WI. Students will remember her science unit which included hatching and raising ducks and geese. Alice was very active in many things. She was a Boy Scout den mother in the 60's. Alice helped lead trips to Europe, and loved to travel. She was very involved in Homemakers, square dancing, cake decorating, Round Robin from Oshkosh, playing the piano and organ, and choir. She raised pumpkins and sold them in the fall for Halloween.

She was a block captain for the Meadowood Community Club for many years. Alice attended First Baptist Church for 67 years, where she sang in the choir, attended the group 60+, and was a member of several committees, and boards. Alice's favorite getaway was her beloved chalet in Verona. Alice lived her last year at Brightstar Senior Living in Madison. It was a very happy time for her, and she made many friends. We'd like to thank the staff at Brightstar for sharing their love with her, and for her excellent care.

Alice is survived by her two children, Randy Wing of SC, and Jane Stam of Madison. Her grandchildren, Krystle (Adam) Gunter, Courtney Stam, Jeff Stam, Jason Wing, Layla (Brandon) Jenkins, Kira Russell, and Fabiana (Jeremy) Brock, and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving her are her nieces and a nephew.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wing; her parents, Gertrude and Floyd Carpenter, her sister Dorothy Schult, a daughter Debbie Russell of GA, a son Timothy Wing of Madison, and a niece Connie Schult of Watertown.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at First Baptist Church, 518 N. Franklin Avenue, in Madison, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00-10:45, with the service beginning at 11 a.m.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
