Velma (Marish) Hipenbecker of Verona, WI passed away peacefully on May 14, 2012 at her home. Velma was born June 9, 1912 in Castle Rock Ridge Township in Grant County, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wensil and Mary Marish, and her siblings: Valeria, William, Mary, Betty, Florence, Helen, Loddi, Donald, Alfonse, Evelyn, Vandy, Paul, Ann, Irene, and two infants. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Mary (Novinski) Hipenbecker.
In the early 1940’s Velma and her daughter, Barbara, moved from Chicago to Montfort WI, where she managed her own restaurant. It was there she met her soul mate, Ralph Hipenbecker, along with his son, Ralph, Jr. After they married, they moved to Fennimore, where they resided until Ralph’s death. She then moved to Verona.
Velma was very dedicated to her family, and her door was always open to anyone who cared to enter. She was a wonderful cook and baker, so she would make everyone feel at home enjoying a treat in her kitchen.
She was always active in her community having been President of the Fennimore Women’s Club and a church volunteer. She was a member of several bridge clubs.
However, her favorite pastime was playing Euchre with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught most of them how to play the game which gave her a great deal of joy. . She is survived by her daughter, Barbara, son- in- law, Fred Stepper, and son, Ralph Hipenbecker, along with her grandchildren and their spouses: Debra (Dennis) Heidenreich, Dan (Sharon) Stepper, Annette (Mike) Barrett, Robert (Cherie) Hipenbecker, Lisa (Steve) Amidei, and Diane Hipenbecker, along with ten great grandchildren. Velma was three weeks shy of celebrating her 100th birthday. Her family was blessed to have shared her final days with her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUK CATHOLIC CHURCH, Castle Rock, WI with Father Ken Frisch officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Saturday.
